# Commands & Permissions

## Chat Permission

If the config value `permission-based-chat` is enabled (true), players will require the permissions `chat.chat` permission to talk in chat. This feature is intended to protect servers against bot attacks. You can require players to vote or do some other task to gain access to talking in chat.

## Important!

By default, Shock Chat limits who can send chat messages with a permission `chat.chat` **You must set this permission on your default rank in order for players to be able to talk in chat!**
